220 Terminal Ave is the site of Vancouver’s first temporary modular housing development for residents at risk of homelessness. Modular housing can be developed considerably faster than permanent housing: manufacturing and construction took just 6 months. Units are self-contained and have their own kitchen. The building features a colourful mural painted by Bracken Hanuse Corlett, an Indigenous artist. As Vancouver’s first modular housing project, it has served as a model for other developments in the city and province. Partnering with BC Housing and non-profit housing operators, VAHA has since developed a further 14 modular buildings on 11 temporarily available sites, 3 of them privately owned.
