Development Status

In 1974, the Kiwanis Club of Vancouver and the Soroptimist International of Vancouver came together to develop Southwynd Place, a 20-unit apartment for seniors on a 1.9 acre site at 8080 Yukon, a block away from the current Marine Drive Skytrain station. The society intends to redevelop the now aging building in a way that creates significantly more non-market housing, not only for seniors but for families and singles as well. Plans include 3 high-rise towers that will increase the number of homes tenfold and provide retail spaces that prioritize health and wellness services. As a mixed-income development, market-rental housing will generate funding for capital costs of the redevelopment. Phase 1 of the redevelopment is a 120-unit building.
