The Sunshine Housing Co-operative at 10744 133 St in Surrey needed to be relocated due to land lease expiration. The Community Land Trust, a social purpose real estate developer that focuses on co-op housing, is working with the housing co-operative on its redevelopment, which is possible through a partnership with the City of Surrey that is providing a long-term lease on a nearby parcel of land. The location maintains the co-op’s central location close Simon Fraser University (Surrey Campus), schools, parks and a Skytrain station. The redevelopment increases the size of the co-op, enabling 30 additional members to join the co-op. Units will be first offered to the current residents of the Sunshine Housing Co-operative, while the remaining will be offered to those that meet the criteria for obtaining affordable housing. Half of the units will be directed to families.
