Deeply Affordable: 20; Rent Geared to Income: 51; Moderate Income: 30
This housing project replaces an apartment building, The Birch, owned by the Langley Lions Housing Society that was destroyed by a fire in 2017. It is also part of a larger, phased plan to redevelop the Society’s aging seniors housing complex of 7 buildings in downtown Langley. Once completed, the phased redevelopment will provide over 900 homes at affordable prices for seniors and people living with disabilities in the community. The new Birch will provide a greater number of units than the original building, including 30 assisted-living units, an indoor lounge, and a shared-activity area. Eighty percent of the units are to be occupied by seniors over 55. Construction for the Birch redevelopment began in 2021, but completion has been delayed because of some construction issues.
