The Legion Veterans Village is a housing development that integrates a Legion Branch, a Centre of Clinical Excellence and a Research Foundation directed at improving the lives of veterans, first responders and their families. Priority for the 91 affordable housing units, including 10 designed for accessibility, are also given to former soldiers, first responders and legion members and their families. Nineteen units provide transitional housing which offers up to 12 months of wrap-around supports and services to help Veterans overcome challenges such as homelessness, addiction, PTSD, and other mental or physical health issues. The building’s on-side clinics provide medical and rehabilitation services to the veterans and first responders community with a focus on post-traumatic stress disorder and mental health. A second phase of the ‘Village’ will add additional market housing. This project is the first of its kind in Canada. The project is a redevelopment of Whalley Legion Branch 229.
