Bowen Island is a municipality located in Howe Sound across from Horseshoe Bay. In 2005, the municipality purchased about 40 acres of land from the Metro Vancouver Regional District that were surplus to regional park needs. These lands are now an important asset that can support community needs. In 2018, Council agreed to enter into a lease agreement with BIRCH to develop non-market housing. The project will provide secure rental housing for Bowen Island Community Members. Units will be in a variety of sizes from studios, up to 3 bed family units. The project has received approval from BC Housing’s Community Fund and construction is expected at the end of 2025.
