The Chilliwack United Church, built in 1954, is the site of a new affordable housing development that is a partnership between Cheam View United Church and Mamele’awt Qweesome Housing Society, a non-profit that meets the needs of rural-to-urban Aboriginal peoples in a holistic approach. The six-storey building, located in downtown Chilliwack, will house low-income individuals and families, including Indigenous people and elders. The redevelopment includes a club/lodge area, that will continue the church’s legacy as a community gathering place. In 2019, Chilliwack United Church, Mt. Shannon United Church and Rosedale United Church amalgamated as the Cheam View United Church, which now meets as one congregation.
