Mount Douglas Court, built in the 1970s, has provided comfortable homes and a safe, caring community for lower-income independent seniors aged 55 and older. The Mount Douglas Seniors Housing Society and its parent organization, the Anglican Diocese of BC, decided to undertake a new development on a vacant portion of the property to address a long waitlist for housing. The new building, Mount Douglas Manor, opened in 2019 and won the Victoria Real Estate Board’s Award of Excellence for affordable housing design. It is “Built Green Gold Technology.” Two-thirds of the new building is dedicated to one-bedroom suites and tenants must be over 55 years old and have an income of $30,000 or less.
